In June a ‘group of group bookers’ visited the Crown & Anchor in Covent Garden to sample the new pre-theatre menu.
Tucked away at the bottom of Neal Street, the Crown & Anchor has long been known as a place for post-works drinks, often with large crowds gathered outside on the cobbled streets.
There has been a pub on this site since at least 1783, then known as King Street, with records showing a change of name to Neal Street in the 1880’s.In 1904, the Watney Combe Reid group re-built the pub, with the outdoor signage still visible today.
These days the Crown & Anchor is a charmingly traditional British pub spread over two floors, a great place to meet for a drink or a bite to eat with friends or colleagues, or to just rest your feet after a hard day’s shopping! A stone’s throw from most major West End theatres makes this the perfect setting for a pre or post-theatre meal, with the kitchen serving a fantastic selection of traditional homemade pub food.
Here is what our guests thought:
"A wonderful meal and great company. We will definitely be visiting again when we are in Covent Garden"
"I very much enjoyed the food on offer. I had a Double Smash Burger and Sticky Toffee Pudding, with a nice large glass of wine. Good proper pub food in a good proper pub!"
"I’ve known of the Crown & Anchor for many years, and I actually used to regularly drink here with my office colleagues in the 70’s! I however wasn’t aware of this private dining room that is available. This would be a great place for my group to meet prior to a matinee theatre performance. We could have a light-lunch and then walk to the theatre together"
